60. Do You Like Fairy Tales?
Do you miss hearing fairy tales? As adults, it is expected that we have developed a sophistication that excludes stories from childhood. Fairy tales are only for...children, right?
I think there is a lot to be learned from children's stories. I have re-read, as an adult, many of my favorites from childhood such as "Winnie the Pooh", "Charlotte's Web" and "Grimm's Fairy Tales." Like watching a favorite movie more than once, there are additional details, messages or lessons gleaned at different stages of our lives.
"Into the Woods" is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales and explores the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella. The musical won many awards in its original Broadway production: Grammy Award, Tony Award, N.Y. Drama Critics' Circle Award.
Southwestern's Sarofim School of Fine Arts presents "Into the Woods", a musical fairy tale for the whole family. Explore the complications of modern society and the difficulties encountered on the path of life with characters from timeless fairy tales and some great music too.
