40. Camp Cooking Basics- REI

After this past weekend of gloriously warm weather that followed a snow day, I realized that Spring is not far away.  In another month the weather will be mild and it will be time to think about camping.

Camping means lots of things to different people; camping can be the most rustic experience or it can be driving your motorhome down the road.  In either case, camping requires a different way of thinking about cooking because you don't have a fully equipped gourmet kitchen at your disposal.

When you leave home, it is important to plan carefully what you are going to cook based on how complex the preparation is, how many ingredients are required, and the storage space needed for these ingredients.  The REI store in Round Rock is offering a "Camp Cooking Basics" class that will help anyone overcome uncertainties about preparing good meals while camping.  The class will instruct on what to bring and how to make the most of cooking in the outdoors.

Even the experienced camper could probably learn some useful tips!  The people who teach these classes are REI specialists with years of experience.  Classes are taught in the state-of-the-art, eco-friendly community space.  This is a great opportunity to learn from others' mistakes.  Camp cooking is no longer just canned beans or freeze-dried food.

There are only 8 spots still available, so hurry and sign up.  The class size is limited to 30 and it is free.  You can "like" REI Round Rock on Facebook and get notifications of upcoming events on your wall.
